E-HÉV Ticket and MÁV app
With the MÁV mobile application, tickets valid for the section of HÉV lines outside Budapest can be redeemed, and from February 2020, the full-price season ticket valid on HÉV H5 can also be redeemed.
The popularity of electronic ticket purchase, which is easily accessible in a few steps on a mobile device, is unbroken, and the convenient and fast solution was liked by many passengers. The e-trainticket not only makes ticketing easier but also faster: the new option reduces the workload of cash registers and vending machines.
HÉV tickets can be buyed for the H5, H6, H8 and H9 HÉV off-border sections, and full-price season tickets can be purchased for the H5 HÉV off-border section.

WHICH PARTS OF HEV LINES ARE THE E-TICKETS AVAILABLE?
Ticket and pass exchange is only possible for sections outside Budapest. Within the administrative boundaries of the capital, you can still travel with a ticket or pass in Budapest, which can be redeemed at BKK sales points. Travel planning is also possible in case of a trip crossing the administrative border of Budapest - for this, set one of the following as a discount when planning the trip:
• BKK season ticket
• BKK line, group or transfer ticket
EXAMPLE: You can buy a ticket for the Szentendre-Békásmegyer route, but you cannot for the Batthyány tér-Békásmegyer route, an error message appears
- WHERE CAN WE FIND THE TIMETABLE?
The schedule of the HÉV is available in the application, you can find out when a train leaves from or arrives at the given stop. This information is available for the entire line. If you are interested in the schedule of a stop within Budapest, select the Station Information menu item in the left menu. When traveling across or outside an administrative border, the Route Planning function also shows timetable information.
IS THE TICKET BONDED TO THE SELECTED TRAIN? WHAT ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF THE TICKET?
Validity of the ticket begins at the scheduled departure time of the chosen train from the journey’s departure point, the ticket is valid until 3 a.m. the next day. Tickets are valid for one single journey on the indicated route on any train within its validity period. They are not bonded to the selected train.
For example: a ticket is purchased from Szentendre to Pomáz, with selecting the train departs at 8.54 a.m. This ticket is also valid on any train departing later (e.g. at 6.34 p.m.), however only for one journey and only on that route. Attention: a ticket purchased with selecting the train departing at 8:54 is not valid for a train departing earlier (e.g. at 8:34 a.m.)
- ARE BICYCLE AND ANIMAL FARES AVAILABLE?
From the MÁV app only a limited range of fares is available. Fares, which are not included in the app (among them bicycle and animal fares) can be bought at BKK sale points. For example if you select ‘Bicycle passenger type’ and try to buy a ticket, an error message appears. Be aware that this condition is for MÁV app only, it is still possible to travel with a bike on HÉV but you must buy your ticket at a BKK sales Point
- WHAT ABOUT DISCOUNTS? ARE THE MÁV-START DISCOUNTS VALID FOR HÉV?
Some discounts valid on the MÁV-START network cannot be used on the HÉV. Discount ticket is available from the MÁV app but the app takes into accont only the discounts valid on HÉV.
- HOW CAN WE FIND THE HÉV STATIONS IN MÁV APP?
Please type the name of the station without „Budapest” into the search field. An „H” will appear after the name of the HEV stations.
EXAMPLE: Szentendre H, Pomáz H, Filatorigát H, Batthyány tér H, Aquincum H (not the same as Aquincum MÁV station!), Gödöllő H (not the same as Gödöllő MÁV station!)
ARE HÉV-TICKETS BOUGHT FROM THE APP VALID FOR REPLACEMENT BUSES?
Yes, they are, but during a scheduled replacement by buses the app may give different information than the published temporary timetable, but it doesn’t affect the ticket’s validity. Please check the information boards at www.bkk.hu or www.mav-hev.hu.
WHAT PASS CAN BE PURCHASED WITH THE APPLICATION?
Currently, a full-price pass can be purchased for the section of H5 HÉV outside Budapest, however, according to our plans, the service will be extended to H6, H8 and H9 HÉV. Please note that only full-price passes can be redeemed with the application at this time, the discounts provided will not be taken into account. Passes can be redeemed with the application before the start of the validity period, according to the general rules. WHY CAN'T I EXCHANGE A TICKET OR PASS FOR THE H7 LINE LINE IN THE MÁV APP?
With the MÁV app, it is currently only possible to buy tickets for the section of HÉV lines outside the administrative border. The entire length of the H7 HÉV runs within the administrative boundaries of Budapest, therefore travel planning, ticket and pass exchange is not possible on this line. . The H7 HÉV timetable - per stop - is available in the Station Information menu and trains can be found in the Train Information menu.
