E-HÉV Ticket and MÁV app

With the MÁV mobile application, tickets valid for the section of HÉV lines outside Budapest can be redeemed.

The popularity of electronic ticket purchase, which is easily accessible in a few steps on a mobile device, is unbroken, and the convenient and fast solution was liked by many passengers. The e-trainticket not only makes ticketing easier but also faster: the new option reduces the workload of cash registers and vending machines.

HÉV tickets, County24, and Hungary24 day tickets, as well as County passes, and Hungary passes can be bought for the H5, H6, H8 and H9 HÉV off-border sections. From spring to autumn „Dunakanyar” day ticket can be purchased as well.  

The Pest County passes, the Hungary passes, as well as the Pest County24 and the Hungary24 day tickets are valid for the entire length of all suburban railway lines. One way HÉV tickets are only valid for the suburban sections of the railway lines.

The tickets and passes for the Budapest sections of the railway lines can be purchased at the BKK sales points (customer offices, ticket offices, ticket vending machines (TVM)) and via MÁV mobile application, in case of a trip crossing the administrative border of Budapest.

ON WHICH PARTS OF HEV LINES ARE THE E-TICKETS AVAILABLE?

Ticket exchange is only possible for sections outside Budapest. Within the administrative boundaries of the capital, you can still travel with a ticket or pass in Budapest, which can be redeemed at BKK sales points. Travel planning is also possible in case of a trip crossing the administrative border of Budapest - for this, set one of the following as a discount when planning the trip:

• BKK season ticket
• BKK line, group or transfer ticket

EXAMPLE: You can buy a ticket for the Szentendre-Békásmegyer route, but you cannot for the Batthyány tér-Békásmegyer route, an error message appears

WHERE CAN WE FIND THE TIMETABLE?

The schedule of the HÉV is available in the application, you can find out when a train leaves from or arrives at the given stop. This information is available for the entire line. If you are interested in the schedule of a stop within Budapest, select the Station Information menu item in the left menu. When traveling across or outside an administrative border, the Route Planning function also shows timetable information.

IS THE TICKET BONDED TO THE SELECTED TRAIN? WHAT ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF THE TICKET?

The ticket is valid for 4 hours. The validity of the ticket begins at the scheduled departure time of the chosen train. Tickets are valid for one single journey on the indicated route on any train within its validity period. They are not bonded to the selected train.
For example: a ticket is purchased from Szentendre to Pomáz, with selecting the train departs at 8.54 a.m. This ticket is also valid on any train departing later within the validity of the ticket (e.g. at 12.34 a.m.), however only for one journey and only on that route. Attention: a ticket purchased with selecting the train departing at 8:54 is not valid for a train departing earlier (e.g. at 8:34 a.m.)

ARE BICYCLE AND ANIMAL FARES AVAILABLE?

From the MÁV app dog and bicycle tickets can be purchased. The price of these tickets are 500 forint. 

WHAT ABOUT DISCOUNTS? ARE THE MÁV-START DISCOUNTS VALID FOR HÉV?

Some discounts valid on the MÁV-START network cannot be used on the HÉV. Discount tickets are available from the MÁV app but the app takes into account only the discounts that are valid on HÉV.

ARE HÉV-TICKETS BOUGHT FROM THE APP VALID FOR REPLACEMENT BUSES?

Yes, they are, but during a scheduled replacement by buses the app may give different information than the published temporary timetable, but it doesn’t affect the ticket’s validity. Please check the information boards at www.bkk.hu or www.mav-hev.hu.

WHAT PASS CAN BE PURCHASED WITH THE APPLICATION?

Country passes, and Hungary passes can be purchased with the application. Passes can be redeemed with the application before the start of the validity period, according to the general rules. Please follow the MÁV-HÉV website and Facebook page, where we have more information.

WHY CAN'T I EXCHANGE A TICKET OR PASS FOR THE H7 LINE LINE IN THE MÁV APP?

With the MÁV app, it is currently only possible to buy tickets for the section of HÉV lines outside the administrative border. The entire length of the H7 HÉV runs within the administrative boundaries of Budapest, therefore travel planning, ticket and pass exchange is not possible on this line. The H7 HÉV timetable - per stop - is available in the Station Information menu and trains can be found in the Train Information menu.
